Update

It’s been a long time since I’ve posted anything…It’s just not easy talking about myself.

Things are going very good for me! I know what my new stomach can tolerate. I don’t have to use a food scale anymore. I know when I’m full and know when to stop. This is the single best decision I’ve ever made..I feel better, my attitude towards everything is much more positive.

Today I finally broke the 200 mark…I weighed in at 199 this morning..I think I told DeAnna the end of February that I was so looking forward to getting to that point…Now I’ll have to set a new goal…Big goals are too much for me right now so, I’ve been setting little ones to achieve the big one…

Delaney was a little upset the other night. She wanted to know if I could get the surgery reversed..She remembers our fun times eating…snacking at night…going to McDonalds..I explained to her that wasn’t possible and told her why it was so important for me to lose the weight…I told her we need to create other things that we enjoy doing together..She said Ok and was fine after that..

DeAnna will be visiting next weekend so I’m sure she’ll take more pictures.

Thanks to all of you for your support!

Update

On Friday De Anna and Kevin came to get Delaney for a long weekend..They were taking her to the Matchbox 20 concert! She was so excited…Anyway, it had been a couple of weeks since I saw De Anna. She came to my work to pick me up and when she saw me she RAN towards me. It was the most amazing feeling..She almost made me cry!!.She was obviously happy to see my weight loss. De Anna doesn’t care whether I’m fat or thin but, she’s just really concerned that I’m healthy..She’s never treated me any different…She loves her sister no matter what..I don’t know that I’ve ever thought about it until recently…I call or text her everyday to let her know my weight loss…She’s been so supportive! I love her so much!

I feel amazing! I’m really happy! I haven’t felt this good in probably ten years..I haven’t been getting sick..I get a little irritated with the people that never use to even speak to me and now they want to be really friendly..but, I’m told that I have a different personality…I’m more approachable…So I need to stay positive and just think that’s the reason they are speaking..

My total weight loss is 42 lbs!!

Overdue update..lots to say!

…sorry no pictures though. I was sick while Colleen was here and we were in our pj’s by 5 or 6pm every night. It was awesome. Like a slumber party – only Kevin was there – to bring us dinner, of course. 🙂

First off- She’s down 29lbs! After she lost nearly 25lbs the first week, I honestly started getting concerned when the weight didn’t continue to fall off as quickly as it did the first week. That was, until I attended a meeting with her.

THE MEETING                                                                                                                   It was so interesting and inspirational.  I thought Colleen was the smallest person of all the patients, by far. Okay you know those scales that they say measure body fat? Yeah, I’ve always thought the same thing – crap! How can a scale measure body fat? Well evidently I was wrong, they can. Scottsdale Healthcare has a scale that sends a current through you (not a good idea if you have a pacemaker) and can measure how much of your body is fat/water/bone. Verrry Cool.  Colleens body fat measurement was 39 percent and Melissa (the woman running the meeting , cute as a bug and SO informative) said that 30% was acceptable for women. She said that most people having the surgery would be between 45-55% .  One other speaker mentioned that many of the patients probably only took 4-5 thousand steps prior to surgery. Colleen took about 10-12 thousand a day prior. She’s kind of on a different level so I think that’s why she’s not losing at the same rate as everyone else.  She’s pure muscle.  I’m kidding – but she’s on her feet all day and she definitely has less fat  to lose than the typical bariatric patient.

More personal note….

Today my mom called and said that Colleen grabbed a jacket before leaving the house, put it on and said “whose jacket is this?” and mom said “yours”. Colleen was sure it wasn’t hers because she could almost wrap it around twice! Mom said she’s never seen her beam like that before and it brought tears to her eyes. We are all so proud of her!! I know this website is to help inform other bariatric patients about the procedure and the after effects. I just can’t help talking about how great she’s doing!

The Food                                                                                                                                                       Basically it’s four ounces of food. 3 parts protein to one part anything else.  The anything else isn’t really anything else.  Anything else consists of vegetables, cooked. NO corn, potatoes, tomatoes or peas.  She can also have fruit but no citrus and it has to be peeled.Protein on two legs except for liver. She can have liver – oh joy! Nothing carbonated. Melissa said that if we all stuck to three parts protein and one part other- we’d all lose weight.  So think about it – if you ate a potato you would have to eat three times the size of that potato in protein in order to maintain the proper food proportion to lose weight. GAH!            I’ll take a baked potato and a whole chicken, please!

The Questions!

How much do you want to lose? 122 lbs!

Are you exercising so you don’t have lots of extra skin? Not really exercising that much yet. I should be walking but, it’s been raining. Monday I start working on the treadmill.

What if you DO have lots of extra skin? Will you have it removed? Will insurance pay? I will have it removed. I don’t think insurance will pay.

So far, do you think the surgery was worth it? The surgery was definitely worth it. I just wish I felt better NOW! I’m just very impatient

How is Delaney handling the change? Delaney is not handling things like I hoped she would. Delaney is starting to get back to her normal self but, she’s been acting up at school and I’ve had discussions with her teacher and she said that her behavior is due to me having surgery but, she knows that Delaney will get back to her old self…Her grades haven’t slipped but, she’s talking at school when the teacher tries to teach..At home she throws her little temper tantrums when she doesn’t get what she wants. So, I’ve had to take things away from her that she enjoys…her laptop, ipod and play dates with her best friend Ysabel..I hate doing this but, it’s the only way she’s going to learn!!

Feb 16

I have been really bad about not writing. De Anna is right I have been so exhausted after work…The doctor called me on Thursday and said that I had a little bit of Staph..I thought I was a little bit paranoid even going to the doctor for my incision oozing..but, now I’m glad that I went. I’m on an antibiotic for ten days…I’m extra tired today..I’m wondering if its the staph infection….I’ve had these last couple of days off to rest..Back to work tomorrow for a couple of days then off to De Anna’s for a couple of days…No more weight loss…Mom says I’ve lost inches…It’s hard to look in the mirror and tell myself. I can tell my face is thinner..Mom is the type that will tell me something to make me feel good (i love her for that!) and De Anna on the other hand is EXTREMELY honest with me. (she knows I depend on that!)

I got a lot of recipes off of the obesityhelp websites. I think on Wednesday I will be released to eat whatever I want..within reason of course..I’m really craving fruits right now…I found some flavored waters that have no carbs in it…which has been a huge help! No more Tuna for me…it doesn’t like me! It makes me sick everytime!
